Claremont Key Club Celebrates 25th Anniversary with Mickey Stevens

Earlier this past spring current members of the Key Club of Claremont Secondary School realized that this year, 2013, was the 25th anniversary of the Key Club at that school. One of the events planned to recognize that anniversary was to send a delegation to do a yard clean-up at the home of the now 96 year old Kiwanian who started the club in 1988.  The members were accompanied by Teacher/Faculty Advisor Sharon Pand and retired Teacher/Faculty Advsior John Oberg.

Mickey Stevens lives on what is called a "pan-handle" lot, way back off the street and in behind the house facing the street, It got pruned it into shape as did the shorter, twenty-four foot long hedge, across the front of the house. The lawn was mowed, flower bed weeds pulled, cement blocks forming circles around some trees were wrestled into place, raised gardens were spaded and readied for planting and a sizable portion of lawn sod was dug out where the lawn was to be shortened.  Just a fantastic amount of work.

Faculty Advisor Sharon Pang made a quick trip to the shopping centre and returned with snacks to augment those brought by some of the members.  In the mid-afternoon they called a break to sit about on the patio and to enjoy a lunch and to trade stories about the early days of the Key Club and about the activies of the current club.

It was a great day and so very much appreciated by Mickey Stevens.
